Frequently Asked Questions

Will this app really keep me safe?

Our goal is to help users unmask narcissists and other abusive personalities so they can have safer dates and safer lives! While this app cannot guarantee your safety, its features will guide and support you to keep you as far from harm as possible.

Isn’t all this work taking the fun out of dating?

Reckless fun can get you into a dangerous situation. In fact, nearly half (43%) of dating college women report experiencing violent and abusive dating behaviors.[1]

DateShield provides you with tips and reminders before and during the date so you can have a good time while staying safe!

What are allies and why should I set them up?

Allies are people you are close to and can trust at a time of emergency. They can be family members, friends or colleagues. Setting up an ally allows you to quickly call help in the Emergency Page or send a text asking a friend to call you in a precarious situation. We recommend you choose someone who always answers their phone or checks it regularly.

Why do you want me to enter my date’s physical description?

In an event where you need to contact a friend, their physical description will be included in the text. A physical description helps authorities to identify your date should the situation escalate.

When should I perform the “general check” on my date?

The general check asks non-date-specific questions, so once you know a bit about your date, you can answer them whenever you like! We recommend you perform a check after the third date, and you keep your responses updated.

Help! My date is deemed unsafe! What should I do?

Consider the warnings and flags raised by DateShield. Evaluate your responses and notes. Ask yourself whether you want to continue a potentially dangerous relationship.

No person is worth sacrificing your health, safety and well-being.

The final decision is up to you, but… will you really be happy dating someone who will hurt you in the end?
